Sterling Silver Care

ALL fine Sterling silver will tarnish over time unless it has a rhodium or other plating over the top.  The more exposure to air and water, the faster it will tarnish.  Some people even like the natural gold to brass color that tarnished silver can get.  If you're not one of these people, there are several ways to polish your silver jewelry.

The safest "polish" we know of is a baking soda paste.  Mix 3 parts baking soda to 1 part water. Apply with a soft toothbrush, soft cloth, sponge, etc.  Clean as needed, then buff to bring out the shine.

Some people find using ordinary toothpaste and an old very soft toothbrush will sufficiently polish their silver.  Obviously don't use the toothbrush for your teeth after using it on silver.  If there are other "safe" silver polish ideas out there, let us know. :)

Liquid silver polish is not recommended.   It is extremely messy, and full of nasty chemicals.

Polishing with a dry silver polishing cloth is not much better than liquid, as it is still treated with chemicals, so is not recommended either.

With all silver polishing you should avoid getting ANY product on the PTFE bar.  Sterling charms can be removed from the bar for polishing, and threaded back on when dry.  Always sanitize the PTFE bar before reinserting.
