Shorten and Rethread
Your Pregnancy Belly Ring
__________________________________________________________
Most of the pregnancy belly rings we sell are approx. 2 inches (50mm) long. The PTFE bars are easily shortened to the length you desire. Rethreading 14g PTFE is usually very simple. (Thinner 16g PTFE is not so simple to rethread, and is not usually recommended.) For acrylics, bigger balls are sometimes easier to twist on, but for some styles the smaller balls work better. For dangles - always use the TOP ball. Avoid taking off the dangle end off.
Do not attempt to resize your pregnancy belly ring while you are wearing it.
Simply snip to desired length with clean scissors or sharp blade and screw the top ball back on. It will work best (especially with those finicky acrylics) if you cut the bar at an angle, as in the picture below.
The ball should thread back on easily. Don't over tighten. Unscrew it, then twist it on most of the way a couple times. If it doesn't twist on easily, you might need to make a bit sharper angle. If you end up with a really sharp angle, you might want to snip the very very tip off, so it doesn't poke you.

Now sanitize, and insert into your piercing. Sanitizing is important, don't skip this step. You can sanitize with warm water and antibacterial soap. Do not use alcohol around acrylic balls. It will crack them.
Others sell "Threading Tools". A steel ball is cheaper and does the same thing. However what they don't tell you is that acrylic and steel don't always thread the same. Sometimes acrylic threads are shallower, so even if you use steel to make your threading, it may cut in too deep for your acrylic ball. It is always best to use the type of ball that came with your belly ring, so the threads will be the right depth.
Note: We do not advise rethreading 16g PTFE unless the threads strip on the bar. It is very challenging to work with because the bar is so thin, and the threads on the balls are very shallow. Contact us if you need more help with 16g rethreading.
